As for the gorillas they are known to be far from lightweights either. Silverback gorilla is a large primate and an adult male of this species may reach a weight of up to 400 pounds. They have muscles, my man and woman! Strength: How much can they bench?

Alright, let me explain it to you in layman’s terms. Gorillas are ripped—they’re gym freaks if you will. Forget about those so-called photos of silverbacks which they relax somewhere, right? Looking at their biceps one would think they could lift a truck. Gorillas can lift loads of up to 10 times their body weight.

But hold on, the bear’s no slouch either. In the grizzly bear vs gorilla battle of brawn, grizzlies are incredibly strong too. Ever seen a bear flip a rock the size of a hot tub? Grizzlies can deadlift heavy boulders like they’re toys. So, it’s hard to say who wins in pure strength, but the bear probably edges out with its bulk.

Speed: Who’s Faster?

Now, this one is not as easy as it seems at first glance. Looking at the two animals, the bear, and the gorilla, one would never expect them to be as fast as they are. These mammals can run by reaching a maximum speed of up to 35mph. Imagine that! You are out in the woods walking and chopping the scenic beauty and then suddenly, boom, a grizzly bear comes at you like Bolt, the Olympic champion but 600 pounds bulkier.

But oh wait for it a minute; don’t write off the gorilla just yet. They are capable of running at a pace of approximately 20-25 miles per hour when they are using all their legs. Yeah, and that is not as fast as a grizzly, do you want to encounter a charging gorilla in the jungles? Didn’t think so.

Therefore, in the comparison between the grizzly bear and the gorilla in terms of speed, the bear is the winner. But hey this gorilla would make one reconsider any hiking trip to Congo.
